Carolyn McLaughlin Memorial Fund

cmmfThe Carolyn McLaughlin Memorial Fund (CMMF) was established to honor the life of a beloved mother, wife, philanthropist, and educator.

Last year, donations totaled $24,000 and gave three students access to GCE Lab School’s world-class education through scholarships for tuition, field experiences, and technology. Without donations from individuals like you, this would not have been possible. The first $24,000 raised this year will directly support the three students who were enrolled at GCE Lab School as a result of the contributions made by you and others to the CMMF. All additional donations will be directed toward new scholars, who are only able to attend GCE because of you!

Meet the Scholars

Genesis

Genesis enrolled in GCE Lab School at the beginning of Winter Term in the 2015-16 school year. She is a transfer student from CICS-ChicagoQuest.

Genesis honors the values of global citizenship at GCE Lab School on a daily basis. She takes it upon herself to express gratitude to our field experience guests and hosts by participating actively in field experiences and engaging them individually to express her appreciation for their support. In addition, Genesis demonstrated purpose this past spring in her work in the GCE Garden. She applied what she learned in the classroom about genetics, companion plants, and nutrition to design and plant a garden that continues to provide nutritious food to the GCE community. I look forward to seeing Genesis accomplish her goals related to the values of global citizenship during her tenure at GCE Lab School.

Manny

Emmanuel enrolled in GCE Lab School at the beginning of Elective Term in the 2015-16 school year. He is a transfer student from CICS-ChicagoQuest.

Manny exemplifies the values of global citizenship at GCE Lab School in several ways. He demonstrates autonomy by advocating for himself with his teachers and peers. He initiates meetings with his teachers on a regular basis to clarify and enrich his understanding of course content. Manny also demonstrates achievement in his action projects. He is diligent throughout the revision process to ensure that his final body of work is reflective of what he has learned throughout the duration of his courses. I believe that Manny will continue to demonstrate his commitment to becoming a global citizen throughout his time at GCE Lab School.

Maddie

Maddie matriculated to GCE Lab School during Winter Term of the 2015-16 School Year. She is a transfer student from Lincoln Park’s IB Program and formerly attended Lasalle Language Academy.

Maddie transferred to GCE last year as a Sophomore but it seemed like she had been a part of our community the whole time. She quickly owned her voice as a kind and charming person, and as an inquisitive and passionate student. She is bold, yet thoughtful in the way she shows up every day; in and out of class. She approaches everything with gratitude and a genuine desire to get the most out of every experience. She raises the bar for her peers in many different ways. Maddie never fails to put a smile on my face. It has been such a pleasure to get to know her and I am excited to watch
her grow at GCE.
